Philip Jones Griffiths postuum geëerd

Philip Jones Griffiths, a British photojournalist widely known for his coverage of the Vietnam war, has been awarded the “For Peace and Friendship among Peoples” insignia, the highest distinction of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations.

Many Vietnamese respected Philip Jones Griffiths and his career, who died of cancer on March 18 at the age of 72 in Britain as reported by the Magnum agency. Philip Jones Griffiths’s documents and photos about Vietnam and Cambodia, especially Agent Orange victims, helped raise the world public’s awareness about AO.

Between 1966 and 1971, Jones Griffiths covered the war in Vietnam and published a photo book, entitled “Vietnam Inc”, telling about civilians’ pains and losses, which helped change the US public opinions about the war. He published another book, entitled “Agent Orange”, in 2003, focusing on younger generations of victims of the defoliants sprayed by the US army during the Vietnam war.
